Catalyst: Where Innovation Becomes Inspiration
July 2025
A huge thank you to Christina Brathwaite, hashtag#Evelyn Okeke, the artists, and others
who made Catalyst a smashing success. The passion reminds us why art appreciation is so
vital-it sparks connection, ignites curiosity, and celebrates our shared humanity. Setting up
a gallery for the Merck community was truly inspiring and rewarding. To our incredible
artists- you came out in full force, and your work blew us away. Special thanks to our
curator hashtag#Erasto Cutist Matthews.
Quote from Christina Brathwaite:
“My first big event as Community Outreach Leader of Global hashtag#LEAD! My vision has
always been to bring engagement and highlight all of the people who get out here and give
back to our communities. Today I was able to partner with #GalleryReimagined, a
Baltimore non-profit, that teaches artists how to sell their work and gives our young folks a
healthy outlet. Catalyst, where Innovation creates Inspiration shows the intersection
between science and art. To be a scientist is to be an artist and it’s no wonder
hashtag#Merck is one of the leading pharmaceutical companies, creating life saving drugs
out of nothing but an idea.”

WAZOBIA 2025 ROOTED IN TIME
On May 10 Gallery Reimagined hosted the Wazobia Art and Cultural Festival at the City Springs School
located in the heart of Southeast Baltimore’s Perkins Homes neighborhood. With the generous support of
the Baltimore Community Foundation, we were able to provide 495 free tickets to community
members, ensuring that cost was not a barrier to experiencing high-quality local arts and cultural
programming. This event was especially meaningful in this historically African American neighborhood
that has long faced systemic underinvestment and limited access to the arts. The Wazobia Festival not
only celebrated African culture—it created a space for joy, connection, learning, and cultural pride.
The Wazobia Festival featured a dynamic lineup of performances, workshops, and visual arts experiences.
The event included:
Live Performances: Audiences were treated to an inspiring range of music and dance, including a
jazz ensemble, solo saxophonist, violinist, traditional African drummers and African dancers.
Hands-On Workshops: Community members of all ages engaged in African drum-making, learned
basic drumming techniques, African doll making, and explored the art of African beading.
Panel Discussion: A new addition this year, the panel on Rooted in Time: Africa’s Past, Present,
& Future accomplished true insight on the artists’ inspiration of their artwork as an African
immigrant in America. Rooted in Time: Africa’s Past, Present & Future explored the temporal
and spatial notions of Transatlantic African identity, heritage, culture, and history. This exhibition
brought together artists of African descent working across mixed-media works to challenge linear
understandings of time and identity shaped by colonial frameworks. Featured Panelist:
Chukwudumebi “Chuks” Amadi-Emina, Erasto Matthews, Earnest Shaw, Temi Wynston Edun
