Color Vibes: Stories in Hue
Curatorial Thesis:
“Color Vibes: Stories in Hue” is an immersive exhibition that explores color not merely as a visual phenomenon but as the primary narrator of human experience. This two-part presentation investigates how color functions as a language—conveying emotion, cultural identity, and personal mythology. The exhibition moves beyond the decorative to reveal how hue, saturation, and contrast can weave complex, wordless stories that resonate on a deeply visceral level.
The Vision of Gallery Reimagined:
This exhibition perfectly embodies the mission of Gallery Reimagined: to present art in a context that challenges conventional perspectives. By pairing the introspective, layered solo work of Erasto Curtis Matthews with the dynamic, collaborative dialogue of Leigh & Dez, we offer two distinct yet harmonious ways of “reimagining” how stories can be told through the powerful and universal vocabulary of color.
Visitor Experience:
Gallery Reimagined will be transformed into a journey through emotional color spaces. The curation will intentionally guide visitors from the contemplative, softer-lit environment housing Matthews’s work into the vibrant, high-energy rooms featuring Leigh & Dez, allowing the “vibes” of the color stories to physically and emotionally affect the audience.
“Color Vibes: Stories in Hue” is an invitation to listen to the stories that color tells, to feel its vibrations, and to reimagine the world through its brilliant, narrative lens.

A huge thank you to Christina Brathwaite and Evelyn Okeke, the artists, and others who made Catalyst a smashing success. The passion reminds us why art appreciation is so vital-it sparks connection, ignites curiosity, and celebrates our shared humanity. Setting up a gallery for the Merck community was truly inspiring and rewarding. To our incredible artists- you came out in full force, and your work blew us away. Special thanks to our curator Erasto Curtis Matthews.
Quote from Christina Brathwaite:
“My first big event as Community Outreach Leader of Global #LEAD! My vision has always been to bring engagement and highlight all of the people who get out here and give back to our communities. Today I was able to partner with #GalleryReimagined, a Baltimore non-profit, that teaches artists how to sell their work and gives our young folks a healthy outlet. Catalyst, where Innovation creates Inspiration shows the intersection between science and art. To be a scientist is to be an artist and it’s no wonder Merck is one of the leading pharmaceutical companies, creating life saving drugs out of nothing but an idea.”

Rooted in Time: Africa’s Past, Present & Future explores the temporal and spatial notions of Transatlantic African identity, heritage, culture, and history. This exhibition brought together artists of African descent working across painting, sculpture, photography, installation, and mixed-media works to challenge linear understandings of time and identity shaped by colonial frameworks. These artists engaged the cyclical nature of cultural inheritance, foregrounding how time, space, memory, and embodied knowledge shape evolving forms of oral history, storytelling traditions, ancestral practices, spiritual systems, material culture, and afro-futurist imaginations.
Rooted in Time: Africa’s Past, Present & Future invites us to reflect, reckon, and re-envision; to activate our collective imagination toward liberated and self determined futures. How do we carry our past forward? How is culture reshaped in motion? And what futures become possible when we root ourselves fully in the remembrance of who we are?

WAZOBIA 2025 ROOTED IN TIME
On May 10 Gallery Reimagined hosted the Wazobia Art and Cultural Festival at the City Springs School
located in the heart of Southeast Baltimore’s Perkins Homes neighborhood. With the generous support of
the Baltimore Community Foundation, we were able to provide 495 free tickets to community
members, ensuring that cost was not a barrier to experiencing high-quality local arts and cultural
programming. This event was especially meaningful in this historically African American neighborhood
that has long faced systemic underinvestment and limited access to the arts. The Wazobia Festival not
only celebrated African culture—it created a space for joy, connection, learning, and cultural pride.
The Wazobia Festival featured a dynamic lineup of performances, workshops, and visual arts experiences.
The event included:
Live Performances: Audiences were treated to an inspiring range of music and dance, including a
jazz ensemble, solo saxophonist, violinist, traditional African drummers and African dancers.
Hands-On Workshops: Community members of all ages engaged in African drum-making, learned
basic drumming techniques, African doll making, and explored the art of African beading.
Panel Discussion: A new addition this year, the panel on Rooted in Time: Africa’s Past, Present,
& Future accomplished true insight on the artists’ inspiration of their artwork as an African
immigrant in America. Rooted in Time: Africa’s Past, Present & Future explored the temporal
and spatial notions of Transatlantic African identity, heritage, culture, and history. This exhibition
brought together artists of African descent working across mixed-media works to challenge linear
understandings of time and identity shaped by colonial frameworks. Featured Panelist:
